How Zoot and Monette met:

Monette and Behnoosh (her friend) went to the Derby on Saturday, Ocober 24, 1998, to go out and have fun (Monette managed to dissuade Behnoosh from her idea of goth clubs). Upon arriving, they were thorougly disgusted by the amount of couples there. Monette saw a good-looking guy dancing with a woman, but thought no more about it (she wondered why the slit in her dress went all the way to her hip, and found out later that Zoot had ripped it accidentally by stepping on her dress as she turned). Monette & Behnoosh braced for the worst. Behnoosh got snagged into dancing with a fellow named Roberto, and Monette wound up laughing at Behnoosh near the bar, listening to the band.

Zoot happened to be leaving, and by chance, took one last look at the dance floor. According to Zoot, a spotlight seemed to shine on Monette (Monette doubts this highly, but nevertheless...).
He walked over to where she was and asked her to dance.

She accepted, they stepped onto the dance floor, where "Fever" started to play.

The rest, as they say, is history.
